In short
Parsons School of Design, part of The New School in New York's Greenwich Village, was founded in 1896 by the painter William Merritt Chase as the Chase School; between 1904 and 1910 it launched programmes in costume (fashion) design, advertising design and interior decoration, and it took the name of its longtime director, Frank Alvah Parsons. Its five schools house more than thirty degree programmes across art and design. The Fashion Design BFA combines hand-making and digital skills, with four pathways (Collection, Fashion Product, Materiality, and Systems and Society) and projects with industry partners, and the school also offers a Product Design BFA and the MFA Fashion Design and Society.
