In short
Penland School of Craft is an educational centre in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, founded in 1929 by Lucy Morgan as an outgrowth of the Penland Weavers, a local hand-weaving project. It offers intensive, materials-based craft workshops of various lengths for makers of all skill levels, without grades or degrees, taught by guest instructors, along with artist residencies and a gallery. Its studios cover books, clay, drawing and painting, glass (blowing, casting and flameworking), iron, letterpress, metals and jewellery, papermaking, photography, printmaking, textiles (weaving, dyeing, sewing and garment construction) and wood.
