The Polo Tecnico Professionale di Venezia (I.I.S. Vendramin Corner), with its head office in the former convent of San Giuseppe in Castello, runs a «Made in Italy» vocational course in shipbuilding and inland navigation, also offered in an evening section for adults. The experimental four-year course ends with the state exam and diploma, and teaches the planning, assembly, finishing and maintenance of hulls and pleasure boats, together with marine engines and electrical systems. Practical work takes place in a boatyard set up at the Giardini di Castello with a travelling crane for hauling out boats, and from the second year students do placements in boatyards and marinas around Venice.
