In short
The Ramses Wissa Wassef Art Centre is a tapestry-weaving workshop in the village of Harrania, on the Sakkara Road in Giza, founded in 1951 by the architect Ramses Wissa Wassef, who invited village children to learn to weave without patterns or templates, choosing their own subjects and colours. Today the centre works as a cooperative and produces wool and cotton tapestries, pottery and batik. His daughters carried the method forward: Suzanne formed a new group of weavers with village children in 1972, and Yoanna took over the batik group in 1974. The centre is open to visitors, who can meet the weavers and potters in the workshops.
