In short
The Real Fábrica de Tapices was founded in Madrid in 1721 by Philip V, with the Flemish Vandergoten family of craftsmen directing the work. Today the manufactory makes tapestries, carpets and reposteros (heraldic hangings), restores and cleans historic textiles and carpets, and dyes fabrics and yarns in its workshops on Calle Fuenterrabía. One of the stated aims of the foundation that has run it since 1996 is to facilitate the transmission and teaching of the crafts of weaving, conserving and restoring tapestries and carpets; the site does not describe a course of its own.
