The Vocational School of Technical Sciences of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University is in the At Meydanı district of Rize, on Turkey's Black Sea coast. It traces its origins to Rize Vocational School, opened in 1976, and became a school of its own in 2012, when Rize Vocational School was split in two. Its Traditional Handicrafts programme trains students in the motifs, embroidery, weaving and other art forms of Turkish culture, with fields such as weaving, ceramics, ebru marbling, tile making, illumination, miniature, felt making and leatherwork. The Furniture and Decoration programme is a two-year associate degree covering wood materials, furniture production, woodworking techniques, decorative wood surfaces, computer-aided design and classic furniture design.
