Saint Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design was founded in 1930 as the Leningrad Textile Institute. Among its institutes are the Institute of Textiles and Fashion, the Institute of Costume Design, which trains designers of clothing and accessories, and the Institute of Applied Art, which offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral programmes with workshops for stone and bone carving, mosaic, weaving and jewellery. The university also runs a college of technology and modelling and an engineering school of clothing.
