The SAM – Scuola dell'Arte della Medaglia is the school of the Italian State Mint and Polygraphic Institute (Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato) in Rome, which trains sculptors, engravers and experts in medal-making and numismatics. Its three-year advanced course, free of charge and with limited places, covers the design of two- and three-dimensional objects, modelling, decoration and restoration in eleven workshops, and includes special projects commissioned from outside. The school states that its graduates work in coin and medal minting, jewellery and other high craftsmanship; it is located in Viale Gottardo.
