In short
Sámij åhpadusguovdásj (Samernas utbildningscentrum) is a Sámi educational institution in Jokkmokk, run by a foundation formed by the Swedish Sámi national association (SSR), Same Ätnam and Jokkmokk municipality; it began as Samernas folkhögskola in the 1940s and has carried its current name since 1999. Its one-year duodji programmes are Dibmaduodje (skin and textile: preparing and sewing skins and reindeer leg-skin, hand and machine sewing, band weaving, pewter-thread and bead work) and Garraduodje (wood and horn: carving, knife-making including forging blades and tanning sheath leather, horn work, bentwood and engraving). After the foundation year students can continue with a second year and then apply, through the Swedish Crafts Council, for an apprenticeship and a journeyman's certificate in duodji.
