In short
The state vocational school for wood sculptors in Oberammergau, run by the Free State of Bavaria, trains wood sculptors in carving, modelling, ceramics, casting and moulding, freehand drawing, printmaking, lettering, art history, and the traditional painting, silvering and gilding of figures. The students also learn joinery, turning, stone and metal working, and the school has its own workshops, drawing hall, print shop, maker lab and an exhibition pavilion opened in 2011. Admission requires a portfolio and an entrance examination, and an annual exhibition shows the journeyman pieces of the graduating class.
