In short
The Sturt School for Wood is part of Sturt Gallery & Studios in Mittagong, New South Wales, a craft centre founded in 1941 by Winifred West; the school itself has trained woodworkers and furniture makers since 1985. Its one-year intensive course leads to the MSF40222 Certificate IV in Furniture Design and Manufacturing and is mainly practical: hand tools, machinery, joints, curved work, veneering, batch production and the design and making of a chair, taught by professional furniture makers. The school states that the course is not offered in 2026 and invites applicants to register their interest for future courses.
