In short
The Secondary School of Applied Arts and Higher Vocational School in Turnov opened on 8 November 1884 as a technical school for working precious stones, adding gem setting (goldsmithing) and gem engraving in the following years. Its secondary courses are gemstone design and cutting, goldsmithing and jewellery design, artistic blacksmithing and locksmithing, graphic and relief engraving, and design of cast objects and jewellery. The higher vocational school teaches the restoration of metals, minerals and organic materials, and runs a bachelor's programme in the conservation and restoration of works of applied art jointly with the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague. The school also offers courses for the public.
