In short
The Secondary School of Arts and Crafts in Bechyně was founded in 1884 as the first Czech ceramics school, originally teaching stove-making, pottery and ceramic painting. Today it offers four-year courses in ceramic design, industrial design, graphic design and multimedia, a three-year vocational course for ceramics makers and decorators, and a two-year course in ceramics technology; in ceramic design, students shape, model and decorate their own designs in the school workshops. Since 1966 the school has hosted an international ceramics symposium held every two years.
