In short
The Secondary School of Applied Arts for Ceramics and Glass in Karlovy Vary descends from a ceramics school founded in Znojmo in 1872, which moved to Karlovy Vary, a centre of porcelain making, in 1922. Its art courses ending with the maturita exam are ceramic and porcelain design, glass and lighting object design, fashion design, graphic design and photography and multimedia; it also trains glassblowers and glass cutters and ceramic makers and decorators through apprenticeship courses. Glass design students take placements in glass companies. The school also offers chemistry and ecology courses and is run by the Karlovy Vary Region.
