In short
The Surikov Moscow State Academic Art Institute, attached to the Russian Academy of Arts, is a fine arts institute in Moscow that describes itself as the successor and heir of the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, which grew out of a drawing class organised in 1832 and became a school in 1843; the institute has borne the name of Vasily Surikov since 1948. It has faculties of painting, graphics, sculpture, architecture, theory and history of art, and additional professional education. Its specialist degree in painting includes, alongside easel, monumental and theatre painting, two specialisations as artist-restorer: easel oil painting and tempera painting.
