In short
The School of Design and Handicraft is one of the schools of Tækniskólinn, the vocational college formed in 2008 from the merger of Iðnskólinn í Reykjavík and Fjöltækniskólinn. It teaches the certified trades of clothing (dressmaking and tailoring), hairdressing and gold and silversmithing, with three to four years of study leading to the journeyman's exam, and a design and innovation track preparing for design studies at university. The gold and silversmithing programme, which the school states is the only one in Iceland preparing for the journeyman's exam in the trade, combines five semesters at school on Skólavörðuholt with up to 72 weeks of workplace training.
