In short
Tai Poutini Polytechnic, part of Te Pūkenga, teaches hard stone and jade carving at its Greymouth campus. The programme includes the New Zealand Certificate in Arts and Design at levels 3 and 4, of 20 weeks each, and the New Zealand Diploma in Arts and Design at level 5, of 40 weeks, all full-time on campus. Students learn production techniques for stone carving and rock sculpture and design skills for one-off pieces; the polytechnic says the programme is unique in New Zealand.
