In short
Te Wānanga o Aotearoa is a Māori tertiary education provider that began in Te Awamutu, where the Waipā Kōkiri Arts Centre opened to provide training in toi Māori, te reo Māori and trades; it now has campuses across New Zealand. Its Māori arts programmes include weaving (raranga, Ngā Mahi ā te Whare Pora), from introductory certificates and micro-credentials to a diploma, where students learn to harvest harakeke and work on advanced fibre projects, and a Bachelor of Māori Art in weaving. It also teaches whakairo (Māori carving), with hands-on projects using the students' own tools, as well as visual arts and performing arts.
