In short
The Wooden Boat Centre – Tasmania is a community-owned, member-led organisation in Franklin, on the Huon River, whose mission is to keep the traditional craft of wooden boatbuilding alive. It runs a full-year wooden boatbuilding course of 38 hours a week, from February to December, with small numbers and tuition from a shipwright, covering joinery, tools and machinery and the work of a junior shipwright and boat builder, including restoration. It also offers shorter courses such as lofting, canoe and skin-on-frame building, a clinker dinghy programme, oars and paddles and an introduction to fine woodworking, and restores heritage wooden boats.
