The Academy of Arts & Design of Tsinghua University in Beijing descends from the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts, established in 1956 as China's first higher education institution for art and design, which became part of Tsinghua University in 1999. It has ten departments, including textile and fashion design, ceramic design, arts and crafts, industrial design and environmental art design, and offers undergraduate, master's and doctoral programmes. It also publishes the art journal ZHUANGSHI.
