In short
The Universidad del Museo Social Argentino (UMSA), a private university in Buenos Aires, teaches a four-year Licenciatura in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property at its Faculty of Arts building, Sarmiento 1565, which has workshops for drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking and a laboratory for conservation diagnosis. The programme combines art history, the study of how materials deteriorate, traditional and new restoration techniques, physical chemistry and biology, and the ethics of conservation, with an emphasis on manual skill. It also leads to an intermediate title of Technician in the Conservation of Works of Art, and graduates work in museums, heritage services, galleries and private conservation studios.
