In short

The Department of Art & Design at the University of Alberta in Edmonton offers a four-year Bachelor of Design (BDes) in which, after a common first year, students can focus on Industrial Design or Visual Communication Design, choosing among several routes such as engineering, business or the general route. Industrial Design students work in studios with design and prototyping technologies, a large machine workshop, 3D printers and a CNC router, on products ranging from furniture to medical products, and take part in client projects and a practicum. A Master of Design (MDes) offers advanced study with a thesis project.
