In short

The Faculty of Art of the University of Birjand, on the Shokatabad campus in Birjand (South Khorasan), opened in February 2003 in the historic Akbarieh garden and describes itself as the only university art centre in eastern Iran. It focuses on applied arts, with bachelor's programmes in handicrafts, carpet and Islamic art alongside archaeology, architecture and urban planning, and master's programmes in carpet (raw materials and dyeing), Islamic art and archaeology. The handicrafts course includes workshops in pottery and tiles, traditional dyeing, miniature and illumination, textiles and weaving, woodwork, metal engraving and jewellery; the carpet course teaches design, weaving and restoration of carpets and kilims.
