The Department of Art and Design (StAD) of the University of Nairobi was established in January 2006, evolving from the university's former Department of Design, which had existed since the mid-1960s and offered degrees in Fine Art and Design from 1967. Its thematic areas include fashion design and interior design. The Bachelor of Fashion Design runs for a minimum of eight semesters and takes into account new technological developments in the fashion industry. The department is in the ADD Building on State House Road, Nairobi.
