In short
The crafts field of the University of Toyama's Faculty of Art and Design, at Futagami-machi in Takaoka, teaches metal crafts and lacquer. In metalwork, students begin with jewellery-making exercises in cutting, bending, soldering and polishing, then learn forging and chasing through hammer raising, lost-wax precision casting and traditional moulded casting; in lacquer, they learn grounds and coating up to roiro polishing, maki-e and raden mother-of-pearl inlay. Graduation works combine traditional lacquer techniques and woodworking with CAD and 3D output.
