In short
Västerbergs folkhögskola is a folk high school run by Region Gävleborg, just outside Storvik in Sandviken municipality. Its wood and blacksmithing line (Träslöjd och smide), of one to two years, teaches traditional sloyd with hand tools only: carving with knife and axe, splitting logs by hand, hewing troughs, bentwood and shrink boxes, birch-bark and root work and basket plaiting, alongside forging everyday objects in the school smithy, including a carving knife of one's own. Its textile courses cover embroidery, reuse, knitting and the design and knitting of sweaters and cardigans.
