In short

The Department of Visual Arts and Design of the Vaal University of Technology traces back to the School of Art and Design, whose first course, a National Diploma in Graphic Design, began in 1978 at the Vaal Triangle College for Advanced Technological Education; diplomas in ceramics, photography and fashion design followed. Today it teaches fashion, fine art, graphic design and photography through three-year diplomas, one-year advanced diplomas, postgraduate diplomas and a Master of Arts in Visual Arts. The fashion course combines practical and academic components, leading students from guided teaching to independent work in developing original ideas with manual and digital techniques.
