The Craft Culture and Jewelry Design major of Wonkwang University in Iksan, formerly the Department of Precious Metal and Gem Craft, was opened in 1978; the university states that it was the first precious-metal programme in Korea and that it grew alongside Iksan's jewellery-processing district. Studio courses cover gem processing and gemmology, precious-metal work, casting and electroforming, fashion jewellery design and jewellery CAD. Extra-curricular workshops include argon welding, enamelling and leathercraft.
