Xinjiang Hetian College is a public full-time undergraduate institution in Hotan, set up in May 2024 on the basis of Hotan Normal College and the Xinjiang Uyghur Medical College, with three campuses in Hotan County and Hotan city. Its School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering began enrolling students nationwide in 2026 for a four-year degree in gem and materials technology, which draws on Hotan's jade resources and combines chemistry, geology, gemmology and materials science with arts and crafts and jewellery trade, focusing on gem identification, craft design and material modification.
