Zhejiang Sci-Tech University in Hangzhou traces its history to the Sericulture Institute founded in 1897. Its School of Fashion offers programmes in garment design and engineering, clothing and costume design, fashion performance and art and technology, with bachelor's, master's and doctoral training, national teaching centres for clothing and research platforms on silk culture and digital garment technology. The school states that it is one of the earliest institutions in China to offer higher education in fashion.
