In brief

The Santa Fe Indian Market, organised by the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts (SWAIA), is held every August in the streets around the Plaza of Santa Fe, New Mexico; it began in 1922 as the Southwest Indian Art Fair. According to SWAIA, nearly 1,000 Native artists from over 200 Tribal Nations show and sell jewellery, pottery, textiles, painting, sculpture and other works directly to visitors. Performances, demonstrations, a gala and a live auction accompany the market.
