In short
The Sakai Knife Craftsman Training Dojo is a programme run by the federation of Sakai knife cooperatives and the Sakai City Industrial Promotion Center to train successors in Sakai's knife-making trade. It offers two courses, forging and edge sharpening: about four months of visits and hands-on sessions at local knife makers, then, after matching with a workshop, about six months of practical training there, plus lectures on the history and production of Sakai knives. It is free, open to people aged roughly 18 to 38 with no prior experience required, and the practical phase carries a monthly training allowance.
